In Badaalubadi village of Rayagada, farming is the foundation of Nila Mandangi’s family.
For years, Nila and her husband, Surendra Saraka, depended on traditional farming to feed their family and earn a living. But improving their harvests and creating a more secure income meant finding better ways to work with the land they had. That is where a new beginning took root.
Through the "Enabling Tribal Livelihood & Food Security through Tuber and Vegetable Farming" project, implemented by Shakti Organisation with the generous support of Ashraya Hastha Trust., Nila received training in scientific farming, family farming, and improved tuber cultivation. With quality seeds and technical guidance, the family began introducing improved practices into their fields.
Today, the farm carries a new sense of possibility. Better farming practices. Improved tuber cultivation. Greater potential for food security and income.
For Nila, this field is more than farmland. It is a source of food for her family, an opportunity to earn more, and a reason to look ahead with confidence.
The family now hopes to expand these activities and make their farm more productive and sustainable.
Because meaningful change doesn't always begin with a big transformation. Sometimes, it begins with a farmer learning a better way, a family trying something new, and a small field becoming a little more hopeful.
Through continued support and technical guidance, SHAKTI Organisation is working alongside farming families to build stronger livelihoods, greater food security, and a more sustainable future.
